Full Dentures in Salem, OR
Tooth loss has a tremendous impact on your quality of life. When you lose all of your teeth, or none of your remaining teeth are functional anymore, basic things become difficult. It becomes hard to speak, and you find that people just can't understand what you're trying to say. And eating your favorite foods becomes almost impossible. If you are suffering from missing or nonfunctional teeth, it may be time to consider dentures, and King Dental Smiles can help.
What are full dentures?
Full dentures are an arch of false teeth, meant to replace a full arch of missing or irreparable natural teeth. This prosthesis is removable, applied to your gums, which support the dentures, with a special dental adhesive. They are made to look and act just like natural teeth.
The Process to Get Dentures
When you go to get your first set of dentures, any remaining teeth are first removed. Impressions are taken of your gums and sent to a lab, where your final prosthesis will be created. In the mean time, you are given a set of temporary dentures, allowing you to eat almost normally as well as speak normally.
When your final set is ready, you will return to the office to make sure that they fit. Your gums may be tender, either from tooth extraction or from getting used to supporting a prosthesis. If this is the case, tissue conditioners, soft, flexible material you can put between your gums and the dentures, can be used until your gums heal completely.
Denture Care
Caring for your dentures requires a little bit of work. You should remove them nightly to clean them thoroughly and to give your gums a break. Brush them and let them soak in a solution to help kill bacteria. It is also recommended that you remove them after eating to help rid your mouth of leftover food particles that can get stuck between your gums and dentures. When reapplying dentures, always use new adhesive.
And just because you have dentures, that doesn't mean you don't need to clean the inside of your mouth anymore. You should still maintain a good oral hygiene routine. Use a soft brush to brush your gums at least twice a day. Brush your tongue and cheeks as well and use mouthwash to kill off any bacteria that could otherwise find itself between your gums and dentures. And be sure to see us at least twice a year for exams.

A more recent alternative to traditional dentures is dental implants, a permanent solution to missing teeth. Implants are placed within your jaw and the false teeth are screwed on to them. The implants support the dentures instead of your gums.
